Karl Mecklenburg was widely considered the most versatile player in the NFL. Mecklenburg played all 7 defensive front positions, often in the course of a single game. In 1987 Karl was selected as the AFC Linebacker of the Year and the AFC Player of the Year. Since retiring, this former captain has been enshrined in the Denver Broncos Ring of Fame, the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame, and is one of 26 players selected as a 2012 Pro Football Hall of Fame semifinalist. Karl’s book Heart of a Student Athlete has won 3 national awards.
